Scott C. Carvajal, PhD, MPH, is Professor and Chair of the Health Behavior Health Promotion Section in the University of Arizona\\'s Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. He is a multi-discipline trained applied social and quantitative psychologist with expertise in health promotion theory, Latino/cultural behavioral research methods, intervention design and evaluation methods. His principal research focuses on understanding a range of health behaviors that convey risk or protection (e.g., substance abuse, sexual risk taking, healthy food choice, physical activity) and mental health outcomes (e.g., bicultural stressors, optimistic beliefs, depressive symptoms, coping strategies), with a major emphasis on testing social ecological models within minority populations. Currently he also is Director of the Arizona Prevention Research Center (AzPRC): http://azprc.arizona.edu/, with principal support by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This center partners with communities to improve the health and well-being of people living in the US-Mexico Border states through theory and evidenced-based research, training, advocacy and policy change efforts.
