Dear members of the EHPS, dear friends,
As the corona virus pandemic is afflicting, in different ways, all countries on our Planet and affecting the personal and professional lives of all of us, the EHPS Executive Committee would like to reach out to each one of you, and wish you and your families all the best. Stay safe and follow the recommendations of the local health authorities.
We would also like to urge you to do your best in helping local communities and authorities in succeeding their pandemic-related goals. There is highly relevant knowledge coming from research in human behavior and previous outbreaks that we can use and disseminate in such efforts. Recently, Susan Michie, Robert West, Richard Amlôt and James Rubin summarized the strategies important for changing transmission-related behaviours (here, https://blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2020/03/11/slowing-down-the-covid-19-outbreak-changing-behaviour-by-understanding-it/). This is an excellent example of what we personally, and health psychology can offer to public health in critical times.
The EC and the Local Organisers of EHPS2020 are aware of the lockdowns in many countries, the restrictions in travel and the travel bans imposed by many governments, institutions and Universities. Furthermore, we are aware that the situation changes by the hour and we are continuously monitoring the latest news/announcements/guidelines coming out from the World Health Organization, Governmental Authorities and all related responsible bodies. We are also encouraged by positive developments in China.
At the moment preparations for the conference are proceeding but will be reviewed regularly. Our main concern will always be the wellbeing of our members/ potential participants, their families and our society.
It is in times like this that we understand the importance of standing together and looking after each other.
On behalf of the EHPS
