National Associations:

Health Psychology has started to develop in Romania in the nineties, as an independent research and practice discipline, distinct from public health and clinical psychology. The Romanian Health Psychology Society was started by Prof. Dr. Adriana Baban, who is also the president of the association. The activities of the association include involvement for the health of the community, research and collaborations with several NGOs who are active in the filed of health psychology or the Romanian Ministry of Health. Currently there are more than 200 members from all over Romania. Members of the Romanian Health Psychology Society work in health promotion, clinical settings or academic settings. Students and young professionals form a large percent of the membership.
The Romanian Health Psychology Society is based in Cluj Napoca.
Romania hosted the EHPS conference in Cluj Napoca in 2010.

Education, training and professionalisation:

Training in health psychology is offered during the BA psychology program at the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca. For those who want to work in the field of health psychology there is the possibility for further training during a MA program for public health and clinical psychology at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca. The master program provides a wide range of knowledge and skills in the field of health promotion and clinical health psychology.
A PhD program in health psychology is also offered at the Babes Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca and is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Adriana Baban.


A motivated health psychology research group has been formed at the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca, addressing various research topics and being coordinated by Prof. Dr. Adriana Baban and Dr. Diana Taut. Besides international and national research programs, different conferences, workshops and events are organized within the community. On an international level, Dr. Catrinel Craciun is conducting research and promoting the activities of the Romanian health psychology research group and of EHPS.
