CREATE

Collaborative Research And Training in the European Health Psychology Society – The Early Career Researcher Network of the EHPS

Workshop

CREATE organises interactive workshops each year. Prominent experts within the field of health psychology are invited to lead these workshops. The overall aim of these workshops is to enhance knowledge and skills of participants. Workshop themes are current topics in health psychology theory and research, but also involve methodology and more practical issues like the process of developing papers for peer-review.

Please note, that if the number of applicants exceeds the number of places, CREATE reserves the rights to select participants based on diversity.

Workshop Description

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how research is conducted. This hands-on workshop introduces early-career researchers to practical ways to use large language models (LLMs) rigorously and responsibly in evidence synthesis. Focusing on systematic review workflows, participants will learn how to develop effective system instructions and prompts, generate structured summaries to support screening decisions using chain-of-thought prompting, and improve data extraction accuracy through expert-informed few-shot prompting. The workshop will also address key limitations of LLMs, including issues such as context degradation (“context rot”) and positional bias, and discuss practical strategies for mitigating these challenges in applied research settings. Led by Ian Kellar and João Craveiro, the session combines methodological guidance with applied exercises. Participants will work through concrete examples and develop prompts that can be directly implemented in their own review projects. No prior technical or programming experience is required.
The workshop is not only about developing practical skills but also about connecting. Expect to meet like-minded early-career researchers and learn more about the EHPS before the conference even officially begins. Organized by CREATE, a subdivision of the EHPS, the workshop opens the door to how AI can be used in evidence synthesis. Join us to move beyond experimentation with AI and toward more transparent, thoughtful, and methodologically sound applications in scientific practice.

Empowering Collaboration: Patient and Public Involvement in Health Research

Workshop Description:

Unlock the potential of patient and public involvement in your research journey! Join the interactive CREATE workshop to integrate participatory elements into your projects. Delve into the dynamics of involving members of the public in research, explore real-world examples, and learn to navigate the complexities of patient and public involvement. We will cover the what, why, when and how of involvement and highlight how to include those communities not often heard in research. The workshop will equip you with an increased understanding of the benefits of involving those with lived experience and the practicalities of how to go about doing it. In this 1.5 day workshop, facilitated by Dr. Anna Levke Brütt (University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany) and Dr. Elspeth Mathie (University of Hertfordshire, UK) you will have a chance to explore how patients and members of the public (experts by experience) can get involved in your future research.

Date:

Mon 2nd and Tue 3rd of September 2024 (+ social activity on afternoon of Sun 1st September)

Facilitators:

Dr. Anna Levke Brütt
Dr. Elspeth Mathie

Pricing:
