Special Interest Groups

The EHPS provide many outlets for collaborations based on joint interests

LGBTQIA+ Research

Individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual, or hold other marginalized sexual or gender identities (LGBTQIA+) often experience notable health disparities due to complex social, cultural, structural, and political influences. Despite these challenges, research within health psychology and related fields have given limited attention to these groups, particularly beyond the context of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men. To address this gap, successful roundtables were organized at the EHPS conference in 2023 and 2024 (for the published reports, see below), after which the organizers decided to establish this Special Interest Group (SIG). This SIG seeks to create a network for researchers dedicated to studying these underrepresented groups, enabling them to share ideas on funding, collaborate on proposals, exchange good/best practices, and disseminate job opportunities.

Aims

Set up a collaborative Open Science Framework (OSF) repository of literature and tools to help established and new researchers strengthen their research capacity on LGBTQIA+ questions
Create an overview and network of researchers involved in LGBTQIA+ research (only with their informed consent)
Create an overview and network of research groups involved in LGBTQIA+ research
Create an overview of national and international LGBTQI+ organisations for consultation and collaboration
Send newsletters disseminating new publications, funding opportunities, PhD positions and other job opportunities, etc.
Set up online webinars/presentations/discussions on LGBTQIA+ research
Organise at least one yearly event at the EHPS
Create an overview of all posters and presentations focusing on LGBTQIA+ research at the EHPS conference

Potential future outcomes

Create an international panel of LGBTQI+ advisors (similar to the UK PPI system)
Pre-conference workshops
Overview/state of the art publication in the EHP
Organise a keynote at a future conference about LGBTQIA+ research
